Kopila Valley Women's Cooperative Natural Cotton Shawl Cream with Grey Stripes
The world will change when our girls and our women are educated.” -Maggie Doyne
Amazing things happen when women come together and support each other. That is the core premise – and promise – of the Kopila Valley Women’s Center. We strongly believe in these core values, and are thrilled to partner with The BlinkNow Foundation to offer these one of a kind gifts. These shawls were handmade by women artisans in Nepal at the Kopila Valley Women’s Center. Every shawl is made with fabric from their own looms or from fabrics purchased from the local market, which produces one-of-a-kind variations and makes them uniquely charming. Purchasing this shawl helps provide a dignified job opportunity to female artisans in rural Nepal. These women are inspiring the next generation by showing them that skills and education are the best way to break down social and economic barriers.
The Kopila Valley Women's Center was started in 2013 by the BlinkNow Foundation. Troubled by how hard women had to struggle to earn a living and feed their families, founder Maggie Doyne created a women's empowerment program in Surkhet, Nepal where local women convened to learn job skills, increase their literacy, receive counseling services, and support one another. The Women's Center expanded in 2014 to include a retail shop. When women are educated and empowered, only then can we make steps to alleviate poverty, find gender equality, and foster a thriving community.
