Ethical Practices
is committed to using environmentally friendly resources and processes in our business and in our lives. We support human rights world- wide and believe it is the right of every person to earn a fare wage and work in a safe environment. To this end, is constantly seeking ways to reduce the footprint we leave upon the earth and improve the well-being of all of its inhabitants.
Recycled Gold
We are proud to announce that as of November 2008, is using recycled gold in our castings whenever possible. 100% of our 18k gold castings and approximately 60% of our 10k gold castings are made with recycled gold, as are all of our 18k gold and 10k gold chain.
Ethical Gold
is researching the possibility of working with "ethically mined gold." While many mines claim to sell ethically mined gold, there are currently no universally accepted standards, so it is difficult to ascertain what true "ethical gold" is. will continue to work toward finding consistent, verifiable sources of ethical gold and using it in our jewelry.
Non-Conflict Diamonds
operates in compliance with resolutions set forth by the United Nations as well as the Kimberley Process certification scheme. To the best of our knowledge, the diamonds used in our jewelry are conflict-free; we use only reputable suppliers when purchasing and processing diamonds. All diamonds that pass through our hands are accompanied by invoices stamped with the affirmative statement of a System of Warranties. We keep these records for a minimum of 5 years, and have an internal audit system in check. We believe this is the most effective way of keeping conflict diamonds out of legitimate channels of commerce.
For more information on conflict diamonds, please visit the United Nations and World Diamond Council Web sites at: www.un.org
Coral
has made the decision to stop buying coral. Coral has been used for centuries in fine jewelry but its survival is under attack by over harvesting, human impacts, and pollution. While there are corals that are being farmed in controlled environments, there is not enough information at this time to determine the environmental impact of this practice. As a result, has chosen to stop using coral once our current inventory is sold out and until we are confident there is no threat to the long term survival of coral and it's marine ecosystem. Me&Ro will continue to use antique coral purchased from reputable vendors in limited edition and one-of-a-kind designs.
Packaging and Mailing Materials
uses 100% recycled packaging materials consisting mainly of recycled crinkle paper, and when needed, biodegradable cornstarch peanuts. Our postcard mailers are printed on recycled paper and we continue to increase our use of ecards in place of paper mail in an effort to become as paperless as possible.
